Scope note: Síndrome de dificultad respiratoria de los lactantes recién nacidos, generalmente lactantes prematuros con SURFACTANTES PULMONARES insuficientes. La enfermedad se caracteriza por la formación de membranas de tipo HIALINA que revisten las vías respiratorias terminales (ALVEOLOS PULMONARES) y por el consiguiente colapso del pulmón (ATELECTASIA PULMONAR).

The disease is characterized by the formation of a HYALINE-like membrane lining the terminal respiratory airspaces (PULMONARY ALVEOLI) and subsequent collapse of the lung (PULMONARY ATELECTASIS).
